In a recent interview published in the Financial Times, the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins said that the European Union faced a “moral crisis” as much as an economic one, suggesting that the “hegemonic” model is not working. Among other criticisms, he focused on the challenge facing many economies, being overcome by a rapidly rising unemployment crisis. He pointed out that “The unemployment profile in Greece is different from the unemployment profile in Ireland. You need a pluralism of approaches.”
At http://www.ICanWork4U.com we are in agreement with President Higgins. We concur that solving the unemployment crisis in Ireland, or Greece, Italy, Portugal or Spain need involve a pluralism of approaches, an across the EU effort which in our opinion must include the galvanizing of the communities within those countries. Galvanizing each local community to act in their own interests without waiting for Big Brother or Big Sister, or Aunt, or Granny or Daddy to come to their aid.
At ICanWork4U we believe the adage, ‘Think Globally – Act Locally’. That is why yesterday, May-day, or International Labour Day, we launched our local community employment initiative, http://www.Mayors4Jobs.com to start the battle at community level to reduce unemployment, locally and then nationally.
We believe that each Mayor of every City, Town and County in Ireland, and in countries all across Europe, can become the catalyst for change and the lightning rod in their communities, the lightning rod for getting the people in their localities, back to work!
We have started our campaign to empower the Mayors of Ireland to find jobs for their constituents with our own local Mayor, The Mayor of Galway, Councillor Terry O’Flaherty. Her page and video message has been online for the past 3 days on http://www.Mayors4Jobs.com and already it has been viewed by over 1,000 people across Ireland. It is a great start and we are really delighted with Mayor O’Flaherty’s enthusiasm for this very worthwhile project. She has been a true blue, pushing us all the way to get this website up and launched.
We are engaging with the other Mayors around Ireland to get them enthused about this idea. Who will the next Mayor to be featured on Mayors4Jobs? It could be your local Mayor. Be sure to pass this message on to your Mayor and who knows, your Mayor might be featured next week on http://www.Mayors4Jobs.com
ICanWork4U and Mayors4Jobs, getting Ireland back to work, one village, town or city at a time.
